Comptoir Du Miel’s linden honey is unique in that it comes from historic linden plantations, making this tasting a journey back to the heart of the seventeenth century. It was at this time that Colbert ordered their cultivation.

At the time, these linden plantations, with their many branches, were ordered first for their timber and then for their sapwood. The lime blossoms were subsequently recognized for their beneficial effects. They were also included in the register of medicinal plants of the time.

Lime trees with large leaves and lime trees with small leaves are an important source of nectar and pollen for bees.

Linden honey is harvested mainly in Romania. In France, it is harvested in the Paris basin, including Paris, and in some areas of the Pyrenees, Alps and Jura. Nectar secretion is greatest in low-humidity, fairly warm weather. Honeyflow is intense and very rapid. It is completed in just a few days. As a result, production is capricious.

Beware: some lime nectars are considered toxic to bees. Dead bees have been found under these lime trees!

Contrary to popular belief, lime trees do not produce propolis. However, they are colonized by aphids which produce honeydew which bees love.

Surprisingly, linden honey can be very dark and minty at the same time.

Linden honey has a distinctive menthol-like scent. It’s like opening a medicine cabinet!

Its taste, reminiscent of its odor, is very present, sometimes even bitter and strong. Straw-colored when liquid, it whitens as it thickens. Until it becomes very white.

For the moment, its crystallization is fine and pleasant. However, it can be made liquid by cooling in a bain-marie .

What are the benefits of linden honey?

Linden honey relieves tension and headaches caused by sinusitis. It is anti-spasmodic, sedative and sleep-inducing. Just like orange honey.

It also combats stress and anxiety, as well as palpitations of nervous origin.

Linden flowers treat colds and flu by reducing nasal secretions. nasal secretions. By stimulating perspiration, they reduce fever. They are also prescribed to lower blood pressure, particularly when this is due to psychological or nervous disorders, but also as a long-term treatment for very high arterial pressures associated with arteriosclerosis.

Beware: in excessively strong doses, linden infusion can become stimulating and cause insomnia.

In France, lime leaves are used to make a lotion to soothe itchy skin.
