Mexico is one of the world’s leading honey exporters, thanks to its exceptional climate. Honey is harvested mainly in the eastern states of Yucatan, Quintana-roo and Tabasco. The flora of these states consists mainly of primary tropical forests, rich in melliferous plants and trees. Beekeeping is already well developed here, and continues to become more professional.

Over there, the average production per hive is a dream, between 40 and 70 kg per hive. By comparison, in France, the average harvest is 20kg!

The result is a honey of excellent quality, often with an organic label. The honeyflow lasts 4 months, from March to June. The honey, little consumed by Mexicans, is exported mainly to Germany. That’s why we find a lot of it on our shelves in Europe.

It is in the primary rainforests of southeastern Mexico where Yucatan honey is harvested.

It will be very useful in the cooking thanks to its distinctive aroma. It goes well with any dish.

The taste of Yucatan honey:

Its unusual, very floral taste is surprising at first. It has a sweet carob very pleasant on the palate. Then it explodes on the taste buds: fruity and fragrant, it is particularly appreciated by those seeking an exotic taste. Its only flaw is its crystallization: sometimes coarse, sometimes soft and creamy, Yucatan honey surprises us mainly with its taste.

The bees gathered mainly mango, lemon and other varieties endemic to the peninsula. A real treat for the taste buds! In any case, the taste leaves no one indifferent!

The properties of Yucatan honey :

When we say “all-flower” honey, we mean “a thousand flowers, a thousand virtues”? Which is the case with this honey. At least, the Mexicans are convinced of it! In fact, for them, it’s the best honey in the world, far superior to Manuka honey.

Did you know?

The Yucatan Peninsula accounts for over 15% of Mexican beekeeping production.
