Harvested in Balagne, between sea and mountains, balconied villages and wild wild forestsAsphodel blooms in spring on land that is preferably arid and limestone. In this unspoilt natural setting , amidst villages nestled here and there between mountains and forests, our Asphodel honey is carefully harvested by our local beekeeper. Ideal as a natural sweetenerthe floral and slightly smoky notes of our Asphodel honey are the perfect addition to your hot drinks.
Cared for by our local beekeeper, the hive of eighty thousand bees is alive with song, the incessant flight of foragers and the comings and goings of Corsican singing insects. The asphodel, a hardy plant whose roots cling fifteen to twenty centimetres beneath the ground, is an excellent excellent melliferous plant which wild boars love. The tall stems of this plant are covered with beautiful white flowers, sometimes yellow, which eventually produce a small edible fruit, similar to a cherry with a slight hazelnut taste.
The taste of Asphodel honey:
Asphodel honey is considered a sweet honey. The first harvest of the year in Corsica, it has a slightly smoky odor. When tasted, this smoky flavor is also noticeable.
In fact, it’s quite surprising! In any case, it’s a rare harvest that’s worth appreciating!
The benefits of asphodel :
Externally, asphodel is said to have the following properties to fight wartsbut above all it is said to have antiseptic and diuretic benefits. A bit like chelidonia! Its roots are said to have been used to combat scabies! It’s only a short step from there to thinking that its properties can be found in honey!
