Cuba <\/a>is renowned for its purity, with no pesticides, fungicides or insecticides. This makes the island one of the purest in the world. <\/p>\n

The island of Cuba owes its reputation primarily to its medicine:<\/p>\n

Cuba’s University of Medical Sciences is rooted in its history. It offers the highest standards of pre- and post-graduate education. It maintains a commitment to and support for public health for the entire population. <\/p>\n

Medical education began in east-central Cuba in the province of Camaguey<\/strong> in 1968, when a group of university students from the Havana School of Medicine arrived there to complete their training.<\/p>\n

These students made the reputation of Cuban medicine. The group was accompanied by a small contingent of teachers who, out of love for the country, decided to stay. <\/p>\n

Cuba<\/strong> is reputed to have the best medicine in the world:<\/p>\n

The Cuban pharmaceutical industry:<\/h4>\n

It is one of only six in the world producing a protein called interferon (INF).<\/p>\n

It produces epidermal growth factor, which is used in highly effective creams for burns, hepatitis B vaccine, type B meningococcal vaccine, recombinant streptokinase used in myocardial infarction and pulmonary embolism, immunological modulators, antihypertensive, hypocholesterolemic and anticancer drugs.<\/p>\n

Cuba’s pharmaceutical industry took off in the 1960s with the founding of the Centro nacional de investigaciones cient\u00edficas.<\/p>\n

In the 1960s and 1970s, Cuba benefited from the arrival of numerous researchers and doctors from the Soviet Union.<\/p>\n

In order to limit expenditure, the authorities are promoting short circuits in which basic research, applied research and production lines are concentrated in a single location.<\/p>\n

The Centro de Neurociencias de Cuba (CNEURO), for example, brings together biologists, mathematicians, physicists, doctors involved in various clinical trials and a number of specialized technicians. In particular, CNEURO produces \u201csome six thousand prostheses and hearing aids every year, enabling early diagnosis of deafness in very young children\u201d.<\/span> <\/p>\n
