Lavender is a hardy, perennial, evergreen shrub of the Labiatae family, growing on limestone soil in sunny locations. It flowers between late spring and early summer. Its nectar is used to produce a highly prized, aromatic honey. <\/p>\n

Lavender is emblematic of Provence <\/a>: it is grown on the Valensole plateau. It is also found in Sault in the Vaucluse, and of course in the Dr\u00f4me proven\u00e7ale. It’s in this Dr\u00f4me proven\u00e7ale that our beekeeper has set up his hives, close to Grignan <\/strong>, to produce this organic Lavender Honey. <\/p>\n

Lavender<\/strong> is not a single species:<\/p>\n

First, there is true lavender or lavender angustifolia<\/strong><\/a>also known as fine lavender. It grows on sunny slopes at altitudes of over 1,200 meters. It even benefits from a PDO (protected designation of origin). Suffice to say, there aren’t many harvests of true lavender honey! <\/p>\n

Then there is lavender aspic<\/strong><\/a> (latifolia). This lavender is found throughout Europe in low mountainous areas. It is less appreciated by perfumers. Nevertheless, it has the same medicinal characteristics as true lavender. <\/p>\n

Finally, there is also lavandin<\/strong><\/a>a hybrid species adapted to high altitude.<\/p>\n

Not to mention dozens of subspecies that I won’t name here!<\/p>\n

This is what gives each variety of lavender honey its typical specificity.<\/p>\n

Characteristics of organic lavender honey :<\/h2>\n

Its texture is unctuous and smooth. Its color is pale yellow when harvested. It whitens under the effect of crystallization. Delicate, long-lasting taste. Its fragrance is distinctive and pleasant.
\nThe aroma is delicate and tasty, developing over time. It is easy to recognize the scent of lavender in bloom.
\nIt keeps well when kept away from light and humidity. However, beware of thermal shock, which is not appreciated by lavender honeys. <\/p>\n

For best storage, keep dry, away from light and at a maximum temperature of 14\u00b0.<\/p>\n

The properties and benefits of organic lavender honey:<\/h2>\n

Highly appreciated for its many benefits, lavender honey is said to have the following properties antirheumatic<\/strong><\/a>antispasmodic antiseptic<\/strong> <\/a>and anti-inflammatory.<\/p>\n

Lavender honey is also effective against insomnia. In addition, regular consumption of lavender honey is said to calm anxiety<\/strong><\/a>. <\/p>\n

Another property of lavender honey is well known:<\/p>\n

It soothes minor burns. Simply spread a little lavender honey on the injured skin. This helps the skin heal more quickly. For insect bites, you can also apply honey to minimize pain. <\/p>\n

Lavender is known for its soothing, relaxing properties. In particular, it helps you fall asleep. To remedy insomnia problems, you can prepare a glass of warm milk and add a little lavender honey. Sleepless nights will be a distant memory! For people with rheumatic or spasmodic pains, lavender honey will also help relieve them. <\/p>\n

Finally, lavender honey treats digestive disorders such as stomach ulcers and gastroenteritis.<\/p>\n
